after spending the majority of 2009 in hollywood, chanes briefly returned home to finish up songs for what would become his 2010 release, an experimentation in instrumentation. the 15-track tape, presented by house shoes, exposed us all to the nomadic 21-year-old producer from canton, michigan. chanes would spend the next two years working between home and brooklyn, before relocating to arizona, where he would release his follow up project, renegade hands, (insect records 2013). presented again by shoes, hands solidified chanes as one of the most promising young producers in the country.

in 2007, renowned french producer julien jabre tracked down the american gospel singer phyliss mckoy joubert on myspace. joubert was already a cult figure for house aficionados thanks to -stand on the word-, a song she wrote and performed with her -celestial choir- in 1982 that became a staple of the club scene in new york. it resurfaced as a mysterious bootleg in 2000. julien, who d fallen in love with the song, was eager to remix and officialy rerelease it. when he finally reached out to phyliss, she explained the multitrack tape had been lost. the only thing to do was rerecording it-along with 10 other tracks. today on french label elias, julien and the joubert singers are releasing -stand on the word- in its original and unique 1982 version (mistakenly named after larry levan) and 3 brand new mixes including a fresh dimitri from paris remix. that s how the good lord works!

nice price deal !!! macro has been the home for the albums of some of electronic music’s most exciting live acts. so when a live band enters this context, it should better enter with a bang. kuf do just this with their album debut. the three-piece outfit with keys, bass and drums cooks up a sound that is as warm, cozy and exciting as it is utterly alien. the rhythm section hints at the great history of dirty funk and bouncing r’n b, but the grooves are firmly of today: dance-centered, thrillingly interactive and broken up at the best possible joints. the bewildering thing about kuf is that it is a vocal-led group that has no singer on stage at all. all vocal elements are based on self-recorded samples which keyboard whizz kid tom schneider melds and bends and squeezes in real time. as if it was the most natural thing to do. with no artificial synchronization in place, valentin link on bass and hendrik havekost on drums push the disembodied voices into an arena of hyperintegrated realtime magic of rough soul, intertwined by improvised outbursts and shaped with the aesthetics of raw mpc-based cut up techno.

not too long ago a jiffy bag arrived at parkwest hq. in it was a scratched tdk case with a sa-x tape containing a musical message from years past, simply marked the tape i lost! we sat and listened, able to pinpoint influence and reference but yet hearing something totally new. that this tape surfaced and made it across the years and the miles to us was fortunate. when the synth part came through clear on a later version on the tape, allowing us to remix then it became destiny. emotion, melody and rhythm will always be timeless and these tracks, selected from that tape, are as relevant today as they ever were.

kevin saunderson s kms imprint is a label that should require no introduction. the motor city label has been a techno mainstay since it s inception in 1987. numerous detroit luminaries have released classic after classic on the labels hallowed grooves over the last 25+ years and its influence is still felt in contemporary dance music today. the idea behind the kms origins series is to shine a light on the lesser known cuts in the kms vaults as well as the classics that have given the label it s legendary status during its lifetime.

celebrating 10 years as a label, rekids founder radio slave delivers a mesmerizing production with a remix from ostgut ton’s marcel dettmann. since its birth in 2006 matt edwards’ rekids has played host to some of today’s most renowned names in house and techno, including the likes of nina kraviz, roman flu&#776,,,gel, shed and mr. g. with releases on the likes of r&s and running back, radio slave is one of the world’s finest producers, whose dance-floor focused cuts earned him the title of resident advisor’s most charted artist of 2015.
radio slave’s ‘vision’ is a dusky number possessing popping kicks and ebbing pads that meander forward as a murky voice proclaims the track title. meanwhile, marcel dettmann’s remix distorts the original whilst emphasising the low-end to give it a dark and ominous aesthetic.

king ghazi is shadi khries and gilbert cohen. recorded in amman / may 2014. all the music presented here is original, and has been recorded in jordan in may 2014. this project was born when i met shadi in paris, at the percussion recording sessions for acid arab. from these sessions came the idea of&#8203,,,,,exploring local music styles on the verge of disappearing, in jordan and elsewhere in the middle east. it was also an opportunity for me to meet exceptional people and wonderful artists. for 15 days, we travelled through jordan, recording local musicians. here we hear osama al khairat aka abu sayah, an exiled syrian musician who plays the yarghoul (two flutes linked together by beeswax. one plays a drone, the other the corresponding range, all while blowing continuously). i want to specially thank shermine sawalha for allowing us to record in the living room of her parents house, as well as for coordinating the whole project. without her energy and patience, this record would not be in your hands today.
